WORKSHOP CANCELED
Join us at Hanford Mills Museum on August 28 to practice dyeing with plants native to the Catskill region. The workshop is led by Tabitha Gilmore-Barnes of the Tabitha Gilmore-Barnes Studio.
During this workshop participants will identify local plants that produce yellow dyes, such as Black Eyed Susan and Queen Anne’s Lace, use Indigo, and use alum as a mordant before the dyeing process. Participants will use pre-made native plant dye baths to dye up six 1 oz batches of local wool, with 3-4 in the original colors, and with 2 to be overdyed with Indigo.
All participants are encouraged to bring lined paper or notebook, #2 pencils and eraser/pen, colored pencils. Participants will take home six 1 oz batches of dyed wool.
The workshop fee, which includes all materials, is $60 for museum members and $80 for non-members. Pre-registration is required. The workshop is intended for those over the age of 18, but youth age 10 -17 may take the workshop with parent participation.
