In Veteran’s Memorial Park
Dance puppet theatre company Loco7 will perform an excerpt from “Forsaken,” a piece that explores the displacement of people as well as certain animal species that are endangered including birds and butterflies. Placing perspective on international events by centering the tragedy in Colombia, “Forsaken” tells the story of citizens who are pushed to the brink and have no choice but to migrate while examining the relationship between where we come from and where we go.

Moppy
Moppy is a non-binary musician who has been writing their own songs since they were a young teenager. In the late 2010s, they were a part of the NYC anti-folk movement with their band, Sourdoe. Currently, as a solo artist, their music focuses on self development in a more serious, honest, and loving light.

Djahari Clark
Director and choreographer Djahari Clark and David Kammerer (musician) have collaborated to create The Ballad Tree. Inspired by Appalachian ballads Djahari’s mother sang to her as a child, The Ballad Tree embraces the oral traditions while acknowledging their journey of modification with new interpretations and inspirations. Focusing on the romantic “Murder Ballads,” the songs will include both popular and lesser-known ballads as well as original ballad-inspired music, dance, and puppetry. Akin to fairytales, the ballads speak to universal themes such as tragedy and love.

Azalea Twining is a composer, vocalist, guitarist, and songwriter from Harrisonburg, Virginia creating original pieces. Azalea’s recent projects include a solo flute commission for Intersection, a song cycle set to poetry of the Brontë sisters, a saxophone quartet commission for Second Stage and Composers Now, and a dance opera created and performed by her family, Ensemble InterTwining.
