Named after the beloved character in the children’s novel “My Side of the Mountain” by Jean Craighead George, which was set near Delhi NY. The trail starts at the end of Sheldon Drive near the high school in Delhi. After a steep climb the trail passes through varied vegetation, offering views of the village. It then proceeds west near the ridgeline of the mountain, then finally descending to meet the Bulldog Run Trail. Continue on the trail or follow the Bulldog Run Trail to the Immanuel Lutheran Church Trailhead. The trail ascends 550 feet and is considered moderate-difficult.

Situated in a lavish setting on the shore of Otsego Lake in Cooperstown, Fenimore Art Museum, features important changing exhibitions each season. This year featuring 80s Pop art icon Keith Haring, renowned American photographer Ansel Adams, author and illustrator Jan Brett, Marc Brown–creator of the children’s book and PBS television show character Arthur, and more. The Museum’s collections include wide-ranging assemblages of American art including folk art; important American 18th- and 19th-century landscape, genre, and portrait paintings; more than 125,000 historic photographs; and the renowned Eugene and Clare Thaw Collection of American Indian Art comprised of nearly 900 art objects representative of a broad geographic range of North American Indian cultures, from the Northwest Coast, Eastern Woodlands, Plains, Southwest, Great Lakes, and Prairie regions.

The plan ensures all procedures and safeguards meet or exceed the recommended standards of cleanliness, social distancing and reduced contact for both visitors and staff.

To maintain a safe environment for our visitors, face masks are required inside the museum for visitors age 2 and over, social distancing guidelines are stressed inside the galleries, several hand sanitizing stations are available, and staff members are given a health screening assessment each day upon arrival.

The Farmers’ Museum in Cooperstown is much more than a traditional museum. As one of the oldest living history museums in the country, it provides visitors with a unique opportunity to experience 19th-century rural and village life first-hand.

Founded in 1943, the museum touts a recreated country village and farmstead (circa 1845) encompassing more than 20 important examples of upstate New York architecture including a working blacksmith shop, print shop, pharmacy, general store, and tavern. There’s also an active farmstead complete with heritage livestock.

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the magnificent Colonial Revival-style Main Barn was designed by famed architect Frank Whiting and built in 1917 of local fieldstone for the prize dairy herd of Edward Severin Clark. After completion, farmers and others traveled from miles around to see the impressive building and dubbed it “the cow palace.” The upstairs now houses an extensive collection of early agricultural tools and equipment. Downstairs, visitors find the famous Cardiff Giant–possibly the biggest hoax in U.S. history. In the former milking parlor, see the exhibit Brew: New York’s Craft Beer Revival, featuring objects and images highlighting the history of New York State brewing, hops, and barley up to the present day (on view through October 2021).
