Luke Murphy joined the Hanford Mills Museum team in 2018. Luke helps organize and lead the museum’s nearly 300 educational outreach and after-school programs, serving students across Delaware, Greene, and Schoharie counties. He enjoys bringing memorable, supportive, and fun learning experiences to students. Luke holds a Master’s degree in Museum Studies from the Cooperstown Graduate Program administered by SUNY Oneonta. Luke enjoys the sense of teamwork and community among HMM staff. He also values the museum’s authentic history of the revolutionary woodworking machines that were key to the ingenuity of the milling industry. Luke’s favorite woodworking artifact demonstrated at the Museum is the square-edge-turner. This is used in the process of making butter tub covers and helps transform pieces of wood into perfect circles. When not at Hanford Mills, Luke takes time to give back to the community in other ways such as his role on Oneonta City Council. He is also passionate about exploring the many parks and mountain ranges across New York State. Luke is an avid reader and enjoys anything from science fiction to history. That said, he’s always thrilled to watch any movie in the Star Wars series.
