Learn with Hanford Mills

From Bark to Box

Students will explore the process of turning logs into finished wood products by taking a closer look at the mill’s machines and building a crate for their class to take with them.

  • Grades 3-8
  • $4.00/student
  • 90-120 minutes of programming

This program focuses on trade and transportation through a tour of the Mill, the Museum’s railroad boxcar, and the former railroad bed that brought trains to East Meredith. Students also will take part in a railroad shipping activity, using primary source documents and maps from the Museum’s collection and the class will make a milk crate to bring back to the classroom.
